Infrastructure Report…
The New Jersey Turnpike has decided not to renew Tesla’s contract to provide Level 3 charging at 64 stalls at the Service Areas as of June 6th. The Turnpike Authority prefers a single vendor, restaurant operator Applegreen. Fewer CCS1, Chademo, and NACS Applegreen chargers are available (fewer than 40).
Harrisburg, PA charging hub…
A new EV charging hub that includes fast chargers and solar power opened in Harrisburg, PA. Adding new public EV chargers in clusters grows EV infrastructure, encouraging further EV adoption.
Delaware sues to maintain EV charging funding.
Delaware is joining 15 states in a lawsuit against the federal government to maintain funding for electric vehicle charging stations. The coalition says Congress put the funding into law when it passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.
Also, new federal fees are planned for electric vehicles and hybrids, with this proposal from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The committee’s contribution to the GOP’s hefty tax and spending package calls for an annual fee of $250 for EVs and a yearly $100 fee for hybrid vehicles.
Blue light special…
As anyone who makes long drives in an EV will tell you, we need more public DC fast charging. Well, help is on the way. In 2023, Walmart announced plans to install chargers at thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations by 2030.
Related: Soon, you’ll be able to charge your electric vehicle at Waffle House diners while chatting with truckers and dodging flying chairs. Starting in 2026, BP Pulse will be equipping America’s all-night breakfast places with 400kW DC fast chargers fitted with a mix of CCS and NACS connectors.

EV History Class…
More than a century before Tesla rolled out its first cars, the Baker Electric Coupe and the Riker Electric Roadster rumbled down American streets. Battery-powered cars were so popular that, for a time, about a third of New York’s taxis were electric.
However, those early electric vehicles began to lose ground to a new class of cars, like the Ford Model T, which were cheaper and could more easily be refueled by new oil-based fuels that were becoming available nationwide. Bolstered by federal tax incentives in the 1920s, the oil industry boomed — and so did gasoline-powered cars.

Slate Auto, backed partly by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, unveils a low-cost electric truck that can change into an SUV. Its starting price point: $20,000 after federal EV incentives.
“A radically simple electric pickup truck that can change into whatever you need it to be — even an SUV,” the Slate Auto website says. “Made in the USA at an affordable price (no really, for real).” Build your own.

Prime EV…
Amazon Autos, the American e-commerce giant’s online dealer marketplace, has added the ability to lease a new car online. Previously, the car-shopping site offered financing options and cash payments secured with an online deposit.
Now, shoppers can lease a new car from their homes. That is, as long as they lease a Hyundai. That’s the only carmaker actively involved in Amazon’s car-selling business.
And finally: EVs are not just cars…

Electric trucks prove they can be more powerful, reliable, easier to use, and cost-effective than legacy diesels, one grueling job at a time. If there’s one application that requires serious power and reliability, it’s clearing snow from roads in northern Norway.
The Norwegian Road Administration recently tested an electric truck in a snow-plowing application on the road between Dombås and Grønbakken, which climbs from an elevation of 650 meters to over 1,000 meters.
